This unusual designation number was assigned in 1949 for highly
remarkable aircraft designed as Soviet "reply" to the US Douglas
"Skystreak". Many features were similar to those of Yak-50, the
landing gear layout first of all. The powerful AL-5 engine promised
great performance (up to 2,000km/h estimated speed). The provision
was made for two cannon in the nose, though they were never
installed. The fuel capacity was limited, but enough for the interceptor role.
Taxi tests showed dangerous instability, the program was abandoned in 1951.
